Economic policy uncertainty and growth nexus in Pakistan: a new evidence using NARDL model

چکیده
This study aims to test the symmetric and asymmetric impact of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) on growth for time period 2011M1–2020M5 in Pakistan, using linear nonlinear autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) approach. Unlike other studies, we aim estimate recently developed EPU index by Baker et al. (Q J Econ 131(4):1593–1636, 2016). The (NARDL) model results show that positive shocks have a negative short-run growth, magnitude is greater than shocks. reason Pakistan facing issues like nondiversified sectors, price spikes, political uncertainty, weak financial structure. Due these factors, any adjustment policies creates an unpredictable environment country. When decreases, activity may rebound, but it does not happen instantly. On basis findings study, recommend there should be stability country coordination between macroeconomic achieve long-term goals. Moreover, policymakers must play their part reducing levels envisaging future changes policy-regulatory maintaining flexibility act quickly event major crisis.

The Electricity Consumption and Economic Growth Nexus in Pakistan: A New Evidence
This study examines the Granger causality between electricity consumption and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Pakistan using annual data covering the period 1971 to 2007. Augmented Dickey-Fuller test and Phillips-Perron test reveal that both the series, after logarithmic transformation, are non-stationary and individually integrated at order one. Engle and Granger Cointegration test exhibits t...
متن کاملEconomic growth and energy consumption: New evidence using continuous wavelet
This study examines the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in the Iranian economy. To that end, a wavelet transformation technique is used, which allows us to combine the time domain and frequency domain characteristics of two time series together. Using this approach and data for the period 1991:2 – 2017:1, this study tries to overcome the shortcomings of standard eco...
متن کاملThe electricity consumption and economic growth nexus: Evidence from Greece
This paper attempts to cast light into the relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth in Greece in a multivariate framework. For this purpose we used cointegration techniques and the vector error correction model in order to capture short-run and long-run dynamics over the sample period 1970–2011. The empirical results reveal that in the long-run electricity demand appears...
متن کاملThe Nexus between Financial Development and Economic Growth in India: Evidence from Multivariate VAR Model
The paper examines the causal nexus between financial development and economic growth in India in a multivariate VAR model. The empirical analysis is based on cointegration and causality test. The cointegration test finds the presence of long run equilibrium relationship between financial development and economic growth. The Granger causality test finds the existence of bidirectional causality ...

According to traditional trade theories, foreign trade affects economic growth via several channels such as knowledge and technology spillover, improvement of resources allocation, increasing productivity and competitiveness. Within the framework of new trade theories, the effect of foreign trade on economic growth is ambiguous, and this effect depends on the combination of the different effect...
